Yours truly hosted the second annual Unite with Art Auction and Gala to benefit UNICEF Canada’s Unite for Children Unite Against AIDS Campaign. Founded by Alison Lawton and fronted by Unite with Art executive director Julie Lee, it was a spectacular evening for 400 guests. More than 90 pieces of art were donated, including works by photographers Greg Girard, Lawrence Hislop and Fred Hertzog, and painters David Edwards, Chris Charlebois and David Wilson. Local businesses also contributed.
Hugh Bulmer was the auctioneer. Works by Chris Jordan, Gabryel Harrison and Ross Penhall took the top bids. The evening raised $200,000. Artists who attended includ- ed Norah Borden, Christian Nicolay, Tanya Slingsby, Mi- chele Kambolis, Derek Von Essen, George Vergette and Mia Weinberg. Guests included UNICEF Canada CEO and president Nigel Fisher, former Vancouver Canuck Trevor Linden and his wife, Cristina, and musicians Sarah Mc-Lachlan and Ryan Peake. “We are extremely pleased. People had big fun at an exceptionally gorgeous event and walked away owning exquisite pieces of art, knowing that their contribution helps support children afflicted with HIV/AIDS,” Lee said.
