October, 2005, Julie Lee and Susan Standfield produced a highly successful innovative art exhibition featuring photographs taken by the children of the SHERP orphanage in Maralal Kenya in collaboration with BC’s top contemporary artists.

The artists collaborated with the children’s photographs to make original artworks. The exhibition was designed as a tool to help alleviate poverty in Kenya by nurturing and celebrating the artistic skills of the orphans while also supporting and featuring the talents of the participating artists.

The fair trade art exhibit not only raised money for the SHERP orphanage, the awareness generated went on to encourage many volunteers to work at the orphanage. Hugh Jackman and his wife subsequently set up a foundation for water wells in the community.
